Seagull on a Signpost

While waiting in line for the Hornby Island ferry, I noticed this little seagull sitting on a post.  The contrast of the seabird against the treeline makes me smile every time I look back at this photo because it is a typical west coast scene that serves as a reminder of why I love this place so much.

Keeping Watch Pt. 1

(1 of 2) I received a call from my grandpa one evening and he said to come over and bring my camera because there were herons sitting in a tree across the street.  I gathered up my gear, headed over there, and sure enough this little fella and two of its friends were chilling in a giant tree.

Lone Crow

Taken at Goose Spit in Comox.  I took a few photos of this crow and in one of them, the crow looked directly at me as the shutter clicked, which resulted in a few good laughs.  I must say, the crow’s profile as seen here made for a much better photo.

Tanager.jpg

Tanager

There was a pear tree in my driveway that birds liked to perch on.  When I had nothing to do, I would often look out the window and wait for one to come along.  This is a Western Tanager, but wouldn’t it be funny if it was a partridge?

Cold and Miserable Pt. 1

(1 of 2) When I took this one, it was a particularly stormy day out and, as you can see, all the seagulls were lining the shore waiting for the storm to pass.

(2 of 2) If you’ve ever dreamt of having a close-up of a seagull, now is the time!

Moment of Reflection

Taken at Seal Bay Nature Park.  This heron looks deep in thought, gazing contemplatively out over the water.  It is probably just stalking fish, but it’s still fun to imagine what it might be thinking about.

Chickadee.jpg

Chestnut Chickadee

Chickadees are a pretty common sight around the house.  I caught this little one resting in one of the trees just living its best life and taking in the spring sunshine.

Sitting Pretty

Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC, is home to numerous peafowl that roam the grounds. I found this little one quietly sitting in the gardens taking in a moment of solace. Also, those jewel-toned feathers make it look royal as heck.

Northern Flicker

A lil’ flicker enjoying a blue sky, sun filled, crisp fall morning on Denman Island!
